The Helicopter Crash that killed: Gen. Andrew Owoye Azazi, Gov Patrick Yakowa, Dauda Tsoho, Warrant Officer Mohammed Kamal Commander, Muritala Mohammed Daba   and Lt. Adeyemi   O. Sowole: The dearth development of Niger Delta as seen by Rotimi Oyetunji.   Gen. A O. Azazi & Gov. Patrick Yakowa I hold that Nigeria is on trial again, but the nation seems not to understand her sign or time. A Governor from the North and a General from the South died together after mourning the death of an elderly Bayelsa State. 'Come and join me on board', the General beckoned to the Governor -traveling through oil-filled land without roads, served by innocent dutiful officers and aides.   Together they walked, talked, communed. Together they died, their blood mingled never to be separated: splashed upon trees, grass, soil, and waters never to be recovered. The smoke from their burning skin ascended up to the skies as eternal testimony: because there we...

Boko Haram: Gen Adrew Azazi wasn't the problem after all.

Image
Hardly any day passes that we don't wake up to hear or read of Boko Haram's bombing of churches mosques, market, cars, offices and homes, worst still killing and maiming of hundreds of innocent women, men and children. Few days ago,  PGEJ, called on religious leaders to pray for peace and unity of the country even as he decried the daily newspaper headlines that people wake up to read - Boko Haram bomb, here and there. This is not only worrisome even as I can't stop asking myself: what exactly does Boko Haram want? Obviously Gen. Azazi wasn't the problem after all. Prior to his removal, every attack by Boko Haram was blamed on the NSA, with many critics calling for his head as though he is the Police, Army, SSS, etc. They sold the dummy that the position of the NSA was a "birthright" of the Northern Oligarchy, so putting one of their  own there will be good enough appeasement. Today, we know differently. It was simply a ploy to edge out one of our own....

WHY NIGERIA MAY NEVER BREAK UP

WHY NIGERIA MAY NEVER BREAK UP: For the past few months my rambunctious neighbors have become my wake up alarm clock. They usually rouse me from sleep during the early hours with their boisterous arguments over happenings in the country. Amongst them is ''old Soldier''- an ex- military man whose voice is always on top of others. Usually their debate starts around 5am, when most of them (mainly menial workers) wake to take their bath. Once they got out of the bathroom, debate ensues and stretches till about 6am as they dash out for work. I have never cared to listen in, but last week, having woken up from their loud debate, I decided to eavesdrop on their conversation and suddenly, I got interested in the contentious discourse. ‘‘Old soldier'' was leading the argument this time with some sort of novel posture. He was arguing over the threat posed by Boko Haram to the unity of the country. He seemed to be overly sure that despite the violence, bombing and ...

As the West keeps mum & watches, Nigeria may be a humanitarian nightmare for them

Nigeria - the world's 7th most populous country, ranked Africa's number 1 producer of crude oil, ranked number 8 on OPEC's list but ironically ranked 152 in human capital development yet ranked 2nd in the world's happiest countries list, is sitting on a keg of gun power that may erupt at any time.  The onslaught on Christians by the Islamic sect called Boko Haram has reached a feverish level as Christians in the predominantly muslim Northern region, have taken their destiny in their own hands.  The times are evil as the Boko Haram sect is determined to turn Nigeria into an islamic state. This is totally condemnable and an affront against the minority and peace loving Christians of the Country. The developed world especially the West and the UN must not remain mute and watch the brewing crisis in Nigeria snowball because one thing is certain, should there be a humanitarian crisis in Nigeria, they will be worst hit with refugees.  The time to act is now to avert one o...

Full Report of The $6.8 Billion Fuel Subsidy Scam

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Following the removal of subsidy on PMS on the 1st day of January, 2012 by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the attendant spontaneous social and political upheavals that greeted the policy, the House of Representatives in an Emergency Session on the 8th of January, 2012 set up an Ad-hoc Committee to verify and determine the actual subsidy requirements and monitor the implementation of the subsidy regime in Nigeria. The Federal Government had informed the nation of its inability to continue to pump endless amount of money into the seemingly bottomless pit that was referred to as petroleum products subsidy. It explained that the annual subsidy payment was huge, endless and unsustainable. Nigerians were led to believe that the colossal payments made were solely on PMS and HHK actually consumed by Nigerians. Government ascribed the quoted figures to upsurge in international crude price, high exchange rate, smuggling, increase in population and v...
